For over a Century, the Ironworker trade has been one of the most revered & exciting trades. Ironworkers are recognized as highly skilled, highly trained and safety conscious tradesmen.
Ironworkers Local Union #5 played a major role in the construction of the regions’ most famous structures. Some of our proudest accomplishments are the Capital Building, FedEx Field, M&T Bank Stadium, Nationals Park, Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Capital One Arena, Capital One Headquarters, Amazon Headquarters, South Capitol Street Bridge and UMMS PG County Hospital to name a few. With one look at the magnificent architecture in our district, you can understand the pride that we possess for our union, heritage and trade.
Since the 1980s the Ironworkers Local Union #5 has been a registered and recognized apprenticeship in the region. Currently, we are an accredited college program where you can earn up to 24 credits towards a Construction Management Degree. Our accreditation also means that Veterans can use their GI Bill to receive additional benefits while completing the program. In 2020, we designed and built a state of the art training facility intended to maximize our apprentice’s potential.

Applicants will only be accepted in-person at 7am on the 2nd Monday of every Month.

Requirements to join the program:
18 years of age or older
Birth Certificate
High School Diploma or GED Equivalency
Drivers’ License
Social Security Card
Proper construction work attire (work boots, short or long sleeve t-shirt)
All applicants must provide proper documentation and wear proper clothing to participate in the application process.
