Laundry Machine Operator (Custodial), NA-03/RPL (LT)

Operates commercial laundry equipment to wash, dry, fold, and stack bulk laundry while ensuring proper machine settings and load capacities. Performs custodial duties, operates powered cleaning equipment, completes routine equipment maintenance, and maintains clean facilities. Follows established procedures under general supervision. Requires physical labor, including lifting over 50 lbs., and works in hot, humid, noisy environments with exposure to cleaning chemicals and equipment hazards.


DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: Work is performed under general supervision and reviewed for compliance with instructions and standards of production and quality. Supervisory assistance is readily available to provide information regarding problems that may arise during work. MAJOR DUTIES: Operates commercial laundry machines to wash bulk laundry items. Loads and unloads items into and out of washing machines and dryers. Ensures proper sort, loading capacity, cleaning solvents and correct settings for operation of machinery. Folds and stacks finished items. Cleans rooms, corridors, stairways and other areas. Sweeps, mops, vacuums, scrubs, strips and polishes using light and heavy duty powered equipment. Operated industrial equipment to clean rugs, drapes, etc. Perform routine maintenance of equipment. Cleans, disinfects and deodorizes toilet facilities. Cleans and dusts assigned areas. Empties trash. Washes walls, windows, blinds and ceiling fixtures using ladders, scaffolds and safety belt. Moves heavy furniture, Maintains stock of room and cleaning supplies to perform assigned duties. SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE: Must have knowledge of loading capacities of laundry machines. Must be able to troubleshoot, make adjustment, and perform minor maintenance of equipment. Must have the ability to follow instructions and read signs. Must have basic knowledge of common cleaning solvents, cleaning tools, and equipment. RESPONSIBILITY: Works according to set procedures and production schedules. Oral instructions are provided about how the work should be done and the incumbent is responsible for following instructions and complying with standard methods and procedures on production and quality. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required standing and walking on hard surfaces with some bending, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of items or carts up to and occasionally over 50 pounds. Eg., Pulling wet laundry from washer, pushing heavy carts, and lifting bundles of laundry. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside areas that are noisy, hot and humid. Exposed to dirt and disagreeable odors, vibration from use of heavy equipment, and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions. Exposed to the possibility of bruises from moving carts or falls on wet floors. Care is required to avoid serious injury when working on ladders and when moving or using heavy powered equipment.
